Endodontics

Endodontics deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the pulp, that is, the inner “nerve” of the tooth, as well as of the periradicular tissues.

The most common endodontic procedure is root canal treatment — a painless and safe treatment that aims to preserve natural teeth that would otherwise need to be extracted.

At Dental-i, endodontic treatments are performed using a modern dental microscope, which allows high magnification and precision during treatment. This way we can locate the root canals more accurately and achieve more predictable and effective results.

It is a painless procedure, as adequate anesthesia is achieved while the most up-to-date protocols and techniques are followed, combined with state-of-the-art equipment, so that we can deliver an excellent functional, biological and esthetic result.

When is endodontic treatment needed?

  • When there is severe pain from inflammation or infection of the tooth’s nerve
  • In cases of deep decay or an extensive fracture
  • After an injury to or fracture of the tooth
  • When swelling (an abscess) or sensitivity when chewing is observed

How the treatment is done:

Endodontic treatment includes:

  1. Cleaning the root canals of dead or infected pulp
  2. Disinfection with antimicrobial solutions
  3. Sealing the inside of the tooth with biocompatible materials
  4. Restoring the tooth with resin or a crown, for full reinforcement.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, with the help of digital X-rays and high-precision rotary instruments, and is usually completed in 1–2 visits.

Benefits of modern endodontics:

✔️ A painless and safe procedure
✔️ The natural tooth is kept in the mouth
✔️ Immediate pain relief
✔️ High success rate and long-term prognosis

Our Office

When tooth pain becomes intense, lasts a long time or wakes you up at night, it is usually inflammation of the pulp — the "nerve" of the tooth. In most cases, the right solution is not extraction. It is root canal treatment: a painless, modern treatment that saves the natural tooth for decades.

At Dental-i, root canal treatments are performed with a high-magnification dental microscope. We locate all the root canals (even the finest or most hidden ones), clean them thoroughly and seal them tightly. Success rate above 95%.

When root canal treatment is needed

  • Intense, spontaneous tooth pain
  • Pain that wakes you up at night or gets worse with hot food or drinks
  • Prolonged sensitivity to cold/hot
  • Pain when you bite down or press on the tooth
  • Swelling of the gums around the tooth
  • Darkening of the tooth (dead nerve)
  • A deep carious lesion that has reached the pulp

How root canal treatment is done

1. Diagnosis: clinical examination + digital X-ray. In complex cases, CBCT (3D X-ray).

2. Local anesthesia: modern techniques that completely eliminate the sensation of pain.

3. Access and cleaning: with a microscope magnifying up to x25, we locate all the canals. Modern rotary nickel-titanium instruments and ultrasonic disinfection.

4. Hermetic obturation: with the latest-generation bioceramic material.

5. Restoration: a filling or a crown, depending on the remaining tooth structure.

Why the microscope makes a difference

Statistically, root canal treatments without a microscope have an 80% success rate. With a microscope and proper technique, it exceeds 95%.

  • Locating the 4th and 5th canal (often hidden in molars)
  • Working in heavily calcified canals
  • Removing broken instruments from previous treatments
  • Retreatments (failed old root canal treatments)
  • Diagnosing root cracks

Retreatment

If an old root canal treatment has failed — the pain returns, or there is inflammation or a lesion — extraction is not necessarily needed. Using a microscope, we remove the old filling material, clean again and seal. The success rate for retreatments is above 80%.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does root canal treatment hurt?

No. With modern local anesthesia the procedure is painless. The pain you felt before treatment subsides within 24-48 hours afterward.

Is it better to have the tooth extracted?

Almost never. No artificial tooth (implant, bridge) fully replaces a natural one. Extraction is always the last resort.

How long does a root canal treated tooth last?

With proper root canal treatment and proper restoration, a root canal treated tooth can function normally for 30+ years or even a lifetime.

Is it true that root canal treatments cause systemic diseases?

No. This is a myth that has been completely debunked by modern research. Properly performed root canal treatments are safe and are the more conservative option compared to extraction.

I’m pregnant. Can I have root canal treatment?

Yes, if there is an urgent need. For scheduled treatments we prefer the second trimester, with all protective measures in place.

Are you in pain? Don’t ignore it. Early diagnosis makes the difference.
